When writing a letter to the Debt Collector to dispute the debt and request verification, include the following information:
1) Date 2) Your full name 3) The debt collector’s name 4) Your date of birth 5) The name of the company that the debt collector says you owe money 6) The account number they say belongs to you 7) The “reference number,” if one is included in the letter from the debt collector 8) Your signature (sign the letter) Note: Once the debt collector receives your letter, they are not allowed to contact you again, except to respond to your letter. However, be aware that they may still file a lawsuit against you to collect the debt. The same is true if you tell them to stop contacting you. You should send the letters by certified mail, return receipt requested. Keep copies of everything that you send, including the certification of receipt. ~Dedicated to Protecting Ohio Consumers~
